Best Sea Glass Beaches This Week: 19–25 October 2026

ShoreSense forecasts exceptional hunting potential as the full moon approaches

Sunday 25 October is shaping up to be one of the most promising days in the latest UK sea glass hunting forecast, with five beaches reaching ShoreSense Hunting Potential scores of 94 or higher.

Porthcawl Beach in Wales currently leads the rankings with an exceptional 99/100, followed by Crosby Beach in Merseyside on 97 and Bracelet Bay in Wales on 95.

Westward Ho! in Devon and Porthtowan Beach in Cornwall complete the Top 5, both scoring above 90.

All five beaches show their strongest hunting opportunities on Sunday, just hours before October’s full moon.

Porthtowan Beach, Cornwall94/100Sun 25 Oct, 08:52–11:52

Porthcawl leads with 99/100

Porthcawl Beach tops this week’s ShoreSense rankings, reaching 99/100 on Sunday 25 October.

Its strongest hunting window is forecast between 09:48 and 12:48, with a spring low around 11:18.

Fresh swell following strong recent seas is contributing to the exceptionally high Hunting Potential score.

However, Hunting Comfort is currently 67/100, making it important to distinguish between the potential for sea glass finds and the conditions hunters may experience on the beach.

Crosby Beach takes second place

Crosby Beach in Merseyside is this week’s second-highest-ranked location, reaching 97/100.

Its strongest forecast is between 15:27 and 18:27 on Sunday, with a spring low around 16:57.

ShoreSense is detecting fresh swell and strong recent seas, while Hunting Comfort is currently 89/100.

With its later hunting window, visitors should also check sunset times and allow sufficient daylight to return safely.

Wales, Devon and Cornwall complete the Top 5

Bracelet Bay in Wales reaches 95/100, with a Sunday hunting window from 09:49 to 12:49.

Westward Ho! in Devon also reaches 95/100, with its strongest forecast between 10:08 and 13:08.

Porthtowan Beach in Cornwall follows closely on 94/100, with a forecast window from 08:52 to 11:52.

All three show fresh swell after strong recent seas.

How the Hunter’s Moon could influence sea glass hunting

The full moon occurs on Monday 26 October at approximately 04:12 GMT, making Sunday an interesting day for sea glass hunters.

Around the full moon, the Sun and Moon’s combined gravitational pull generally produces spring tides, with larger differences between high and low water.

These lower low tides can expose additional parts of the beach, potentially opening up areas that are normally submerged.

However, a spring tide alone doesn’t guarantee better sea glass hunting.

Recent wave energy, swell direction, local beach structure and sediment movement also matter.

This week’s unusually high ShoreSense scores reflect favourable tidal timing and strong recent marine activity.

Why Hunting Potential and Comfort are different

One of ShoreSense’s most important distinctions is the separation between Hunting Potential and Hunting Comfort.

Porthcawl currently scores 99 for Hunting Potential but only 67 for Comfort.

That means the forecast suggests strong conditions for moving and potentially exposing sea glass, but the beach may not be particularly comfortable to visit.

A high Hunting Potential score should never override local safety considerations, particularly during energetic seas and large tidal ranges.

Will Sunday’s scores hold?

ShoreSense continuously updates as new marine and weather forecasts arrive.

Scores several days ahead can change significantly as the forecast becomes more reliable.

Hunters can check Forecast Drift on individual beach pages to see whether the outlook has strengthened or weakened.

Always review the latest conditions, tide times and safety information before travelling.
