What is so special about sea glass?

15 October 2026

Sea glass combines history, natural weathering and the excitement of finding something unexpected. Each piece began as a manufactured object, perhaps a bottle, jar, drinking glass or fragment of decorative glassware.

Waves, sediment, and time gradually soften its edges and change its surface, creating the familiar frosted, pitted finish. No two weathered pieces are exactly alike, so even ordinary and common colours can feel personal when you find them yourself. For many collectors, the appeal is the hunt: fresh air, coastal walks and the moment a flash of colour appears among the pebbles.

Rare colours add another layer of excitement, but a favourite piece does not need financial value. Its real significance can be the beach, day or person it reminds you of.

Every piece is imperfect and unique. It’s free and treasure hunting at its finest, and you get to spend the day at the beach.
